JCC European Union

The world, 2050 AD. The once dominant global superpower, the United States of America, is no longer a world player, following the cataclysmic eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano in 2020. Every nation around the planet was affected, both by the eruption and the sudden change in power dynamics. Now, thirty years later, a new world order has emerged, one in which Russia, the European Union, and China compete for world domination. Each has their enemies and allies, their struggles and triumphs. Who will prevail in this game of diplomacy and battle at the end of DUMUNC?

Background Guide

Chair: Bryce McAteer

By way of introduction, my name is Bryce McAteer and I will be your Chair for the European Union in JCC. I am extremely excited to be leading you through such an intense and creative weekend of diplomacy. This will be my 4th and final year of chairing DUMUNC, having previously chaired committees like Water Wars of the Western US and JCC China. MUN is an integral part of my life. With six years under my belt, I have the pleasure of serving as DIRA’s President and overseeing the major operations of Duke’s premier debate and diplomacy organization.

My academic focus is in Environmental Sciences and Policy, with a particular concentration on Western US water management and natural resources economics. I spent the most recent summer working on groundwater policy reform in California on a Rockefeller Foundation funded research project, and am currently interning with an investment firm. A few fun facts: I am an avid hiker, a dual citizen of Sweden and the USA, starred in an *NSYNC music video, and studied abroad in Berlin.
